Officially inaugurated in March 2012, the newly built Metropark Shopping Center has already become one of Baku’s most prestigious shopping malls. With its 22,000 m2 indoor area, Metropark offers an unforgettable shopping, dining and entertainment experience in the central area of Azerbaijan’s capital city, Nerimanov Square.
The outstanding, avant-garde architecture of the Metropark façade is doubtlessly an eye-catching addition to Baku’s cityscape. To further enhance its appearance at night, the imposing building façade called for an innovative lighting solution that would go beyond the typical colour changing application. Recalling huge soap bubbles perfectly framed in a giant jigsaw, the patterns that are symmetrically reproduced on its front side needed to be enlivened by highly flexible, energy saving LED lighting fixtures in order to gain a vibrant, fluid motion. Fixed inside dedicated IP65 protection sleeves, 650 metres of GRIVEN RGB LooseLED strips, with an LED density of 40 LEDs per metre, were hidden below the hollow edge surrounding each bubble frame. The final effect is a dynamic changeover of matching colours, which create an almost realistic sensation of sky rising movement.

If the LooseLED series, being a discrete surface-mount lighting solution for a host of architectural indoor and outdoor applications, represented the best solution for the linear lighting of the bubbles contours, the innovative design approach of this original shopping facility required an attractive flash of light that could create a relationship between the two symmetrically decorated halves of the façade. 4 Powershine D RGBW were therefore installed to enlighten the two vertical areas standing right above the Metropark signage in order to complete this appealing lighting scheme.

Owing to its double cluster configuration that offers full independent digital control of each LED bank, POWERSHINE D RGBW allows absolute freedom to create matching or divergent effects on formerly prohibitive largescale façades and remote spots. The combination of RGBW LEDs provides an unprecedented astonishing white light output quality, as well as a wider variety of intermediate colour hues for an even broader range of application purposes. The all-white LEDs set-up offers a powerful luminous flux which is beyond belief. POWERSHINE D is available also in a newly dedicated release, the Polar Edition, featuring an integrated de-icing system with electrically heated glass, which assures a comfortable functioning even in the utmost severe cold weather conditions.
