The Scandic chain has recently required an LED based replacement of the existing outdoor lighting system for the Scandic Tampere Station Hotel, whose indoor lobby, lounge and restaurant had been completely renovated during last winter with the help of GRIVEN LED strips. The brief demanded the lighting to be highly energy efficient to suit the chain’s ambitious environmental aims, but also aesthetically pleasing. Moreover, the exterior lighting had to recall the indoor design which expresses the architecture’s quality and volume by emphasizing its verticality and creating a consistent luminous flux on the walls.

GRIVEN’s lighting designers choose for the whole perimeter of the Scandic Tampere Station a welcoming atmosphere, rich in colour changing themes and meticulous hints at the typical Finnish outdoor environment. Recalling the stylized, matchstick-like trees of the Finnish winter, the architectural features of the hotel have affected the iterative, linear lighting chosen to further enhance the inspired-by-nature style of this building. An important element to the design of these spaces has been to create a vertical, recurrent kind of lighting which results to be totally integrated in the existing architectural features of the structure.

Beside the over 500 meters of the LooseLED flexible strips in RGB and warm white colour temperature that had been installed in the lobby, lounge and restaurant of the Scandic Station Hotel last winter, GRIVEN’s authorized distributor for Finland, the company IDEAFIX OY, has lately provided 24 units of ZAPHIR RGBW with spot optics installed at the base of the outside walls on the whole perimeter of the Scandic Tampere Station. To light up the two side walls, provided with a restricted number of windows and therefore offering a larger lighting surface, two POWERSHINE MK2 D RGBW with a mixed optics configuration have been chosen owing to their powerful output. Medium optics were installed in the upper bank, while wide optics were preferred for the lower module of these RGBW LED colour changers. The overall lighting effect, easy in its appearance, perfectly matches with the indoor lighting concept and allows the hotel to be seen and recognized from afar.

Developed for refined architectural lighting, ZAPHIR features 40 RGBW power LEDs, that are capable of delivering a remarkable performance from an extremely compact unit. The combination of RGBW LEDs offers an unprecedented astonishing white light output quality, as well as a wider variety of intermediate colour hues for an even broader range of application purposes. The comprehensive selection of optics groups available makes this colour changer suitable for a variety of lighting installations which require maximum photometric flexibility. Its capacitive touchscreen display allows for a direct access to all on-board functions. Relying on the electrical properties of the human body, this capacitive display can be controlled with very light finger touches while it cannot be accidentally operated by external agents. The full digital control system, obtainable from any five-channel remote DMX512 control desk, includes also stand alone functions implemented by pre-configured colour sequences and master/slave mode for multiple units synchronization.

POWERSHINE MK2 D, using a total of 192 powerful RGBW LEDs, is the technologically advanced edition of its renowned architectural wall washer forerunner, whose significantly enhanced output performance have already set the industry standard bar higher. This double cluster configuration LED projector offers full independent digital control of each LED bank and is available with a vast choice of optics for the maximum lighting design flexibility.
