Inspired by antique artistic motifs and architectural patterns, this green area consists of three different gardens – the upper, middle and lower gardens – all of them conceived in the same landscape-planning style and richly decorated by a variety of trees (linden, maple, blue spruce), ornamental shrubs (lilac, jasmine, cherry, acacia, hawthorn), flower gardens and flower beds of tulips and roses stretching among winding paths, romantic ruins and small architectural masterpieces. As a part of the green belt of boulevards that flourished at the beginning of the XIX century around the Kremlin’s walls, Alexander Gardens contributed to the visual unification of this area harmoniously linking it to the surrounding city. Now one of the most popular destinations for Muscovites and tourists, Alexander Gardens have also witnessed many topic events of the Russian history.
Included in a massive architectural renovation project involving the whole Kremlin's area, the Upper and Middle Alexander Gardens have been recently restored in their landscape outline according to a highly conservative plan designed by the best architects and lighting designers in Moscow, who have retrieved and examined old photographs and relics in order to revive the pre-revolutionary layout of the gardens.
According to the new lighting concept, which was aimed at enhancing not only the green areas of the gardens but also their monuments and architectural features, the crowns of large trees are highlighted by 51 TRIDENT CYM 150, powerful colour changers by GRIVEN, installed at ground level. The optics used have been specially selected for maximum visual impact on the extensive coverage of foliage and branches. Recessed LED fixtures have been used to wash with dynamic colours shrubs and low bushes: 95 GRIVEN DUNE MC RGBW have been skillfully embedded in the lawns in order not to violate the general harmony of the gardens' re-established natural pattern.
