The many attractions of Sentosa are really amazing: a 2 km long sheltered beach, Fort Siloso, built during World War II as a protection against the Japanese invasions; two magnificent golf courses; 14 top-class hotels; the Resorts World Sentosa, including the renowned Universal Studios Singapore; two casinos; the Underwater World aquarium and the Tiger Sky Tower, a very tall needle featuring a rotating terrace with a 360° view of the island: all of this and much more make Sentosa one of the most visited amusement and entertainment resorts the world over.

Among its many amenities, Resort World Sentosa is home to two major Hotels which have recently been enhanced by GRIVEN LED lighting fixtures, provided by the local authorized distributor, the company AiXZ International: Crockfords Tower and Hotel Michael. Overlooking the Singapore harbour and the Southern Islands, Crockfords Tower is an 11-storey all-suite hotel hosting its own casino right beneath the tower. Open to guests by invitation only, Crockfords Tower boasts a premium standard in comfort and amenities and a round-the-clock exclusive service. A tribute to one of America’s greatest contemporary architects, Michael Graves, Hotel Michael is a luxurious treat for art lovers. More than just a hotel, Hotel Michael looks like a private art gallery that can be closely enjoyed by thrilled art followers. Every single detail of this architectural jewel, from lamps to crockery, from lounge chairs to carpets, has been chosen to please the eye.

Developed by Mr Shaun Teo of Meinhardt Light Studio, the required lighting design has involved, beside the Crockfords Tower and Hotel Michael, also the Resort World Square in order to provide the whole area with a brilliant and dynamic colour changing scheme. The upper part of the Crockfords Tower has required an impressive number of lighting fixtures to enhance the three levels of its top crown. At the base of each decorative false window, a unit of PARADE D27 with medium optics gives an even splash of colour to the base of the crown, whereas a total number of 112 units has been required to complete the perimeter. Moreover, 112 units of ZAPHIR RGBW with wide or narrow optics have been installed at an upper level, while 16 units of EMERALD RGBW with wide optics enhance the dome of the building. The final result is amazing, as this huge crown is clearly visible from very far way.

For the Hotel Michael a different kind of lighting scheme was chosen, a strong accent lighting for the upper front and side parts made up of a sort of elliptical domes now beautifully enhanced by 76 POWERSHINE MK2 S with narrow optics fitted with 4-leaf barndoors to better direct the light specifically on to the required surface. The total number of the installed fixtures gives the idea of the dimensions of both hotels.

Fitted with a series of pavilions, Resort World Square is an always crowded meeting point offering a wide choice of street attractions, cafès and restaurants, linking the two hotels with canopy covers that offer shelter from sun and rain as well as an opportunity of further amusement at night. 28 POWERSHINE MK2 S with narrow optics fitted with barndoors have been installed at the top of the poles that support the pavilions, which now shine in bright changing colours all night long.

Kilroy Lim of the company AiXZ International asserts: "We were looking for reliable outdoor fixtures that could feature vibrant and powerful colours while allowing a perfect brightness even in wide angles and that could create a dynamic and at the same time smooth colour changing effect. Moreover, as the area to light up is huge and it needed to be seen from Singapore main island, which is about 1km away, the fixtures had to be very powerful. After severe tests, GRIVEN fixtures proved to be the most outstanding in performance compared to other brands and the appointed lighting designer had no hesitation at all in selecting GRIVEN products to light up the entire area. GRIVEN fixtures are also very easy to install as they are fitted with flexible mounting brackets which allow for an easy and steady positioning in every location. The installation process was flawless: it only took 2 days for testing and commissioning and 1 week for programming. Everybody now is very happy about the outcome and the final effect, as it turned out to be better than any expectation.”
