"The Journey of Life" is the theme of the
third edition of Homo Faber Biennal, the exhibition taking place from 1st to
30th September at the monumental complex of the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the
island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. Events, highlights, or simply moments
of life are narrated sublimely through expressions of artistic craftsmanship in
an eleven-stage journey that embodies the very essence of life.

The idea of the "Journey of Life” was conceived by
Hanneli Rupert, Vice Chair of the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and
Craftsmanship, a Swiss-based non-profit organisation that supports artisans
worldwide and curates the event. The art direction of the exhibition was
entrusted to the renowned Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino and architect
Nicolò Rosmarini, who explored the excellence of contemporary craftsmanship
and, in particular, the role of artisanal trades in people’s lives. Together,
they developed a common thread that interweaves messages, codes, inspirations,
and interpretations of the profound theme of human life.
In stage no. 8 of this well-crafted artistic journey,
titled "Dreams”, the maison Alaïa, part of the Richemont group, showcases 30
knitted dresses symbolising the maison's devotion to femininity and the mastery
of its ateliers and artisan suppliers. Displayed on faceless mannequins, the 30
masterpieces by Alaïa rise above the former swimming pool of the Giorgio Cini
Foundation, illuminated by soft white spotlights that enhance their
sophisticated sensuality. A striking visual contrast is created by a red light
diffused around the installation, creating a dreamlike vision that abstracts it
from everyday reality with an unexpected emotional impact.
We are proud and honoured to have contributed a touch
of colour to this artistic installation with the help of 30 custom Capital 200
B fitted with red LEDs, controllable via DALI, deeply linked to the essence of
this event as a symbol of our craftsmanship.
