Located on one of the most beautiful beaches in all South Africa, uMhlanga is a newly developed residential, commercial, and resort town north of Durban on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal. As one of the largest retail nodes in Greater Durban, uMhlanga features a large concentration of shopping centres, motor delearships, and other retail facilities.

Opened in November 2022, the luxurious Oceans Mall of uMhlanga is a high-end mall considered as a game changer in the economic sector of the Durban’s area. It will surely have a positive impact on both the local and regional economy with its job creation and major financial contribution to the city coffers in terms of rates and utilities.

Recognised for its unique curvilinear architecture at the International Property Awards, Oceans Mall features two large, state-of-the-art anchor tenants - Woolworths and Checkers. Over 97% of the mall’s 120 stores are let and are filled with both well-known national and sought-after international brands. It also includes a choice of restaurants while many international fashion-brands will be opening in March 2023 with a world-class offering that positions it amongst the top three exclusive malls in the country.

Conceived by Ian Blair with the company ICB Solutions based in Johannesburg, the lighting design of the external façade of the mall is focused on the main entrance enhancing its peculiar architecture in bright blue. Capital 100 in RGB+W 4000K with narrow optics along with some units of PARADE L2 in the same configuration have been installed on the façade to deliver a splash of colour to its semicircular architecture. PARADE L3 units with spot optics have been positioned facing downwards on the top of the turret to light it up in the same tone of blue. The lighting system is easily managed via an infrared remote control unit which allows an easy assignment of the DMX address, as well as the recalling of built-in stand alone functions. Owing to their positioning close to the ocean, all of the fixtures have been fitted with an anti-saline treatment for a long durability.

Straightforward but impactful, the illumination of the newly built Oceans Mall attracts the many tourists and locals looking for a unique shopping experience.
