Kuwait - Celebrating the Independence Day
Kuwait City is nowadays a bustling metropolis of high-rise office buildings, luxury hotels, wide boulevards and well-tended parks and gardens. Its seaport is used by oil tankers, cargo ships and many pleasure craft. A huge, rich and peaceful city, that had to fight hard for its freedom.
First of the Persian Gulf Arab States to declare independence on June 19th, 1961, Kuwait had to struggle again to win back its freedom after 30 years. With the help of an American-lead coalition of 34 nations, Kuwait forced the Iraqi troops of Saddam Hussein to withdraw from its territories on February, 26th, 1991, after an occupation of more than 6 months.
After Iraqi forces retreated from Kuwait, foreign investors and the Kuwaiti government were actively involved in modernizing the city and turning it into a world-class business hub. Many hotels, shopping malls and offices were built in the city indicating the economic growth since the war.
Within this renovation spirit, the celebration for the independence day has acquired a particular meaning to all the population: therefore from February, 10th till March, 10th 2009 the Ministry of Information building in Kuwait City has been lighted up in order to properly celebrate the independence and liberation day with a fest of light and colours.
GRIVEN is proud of contributing to this happening with its powerful, high-performing colour changers: 32 Kolorado 2500 and 20 Kaleido 575 paid the due homage to a long lasting freedom. They were installed by GRIVEN’s show and event agent for Kuwait, the company High Pro Kuwait, which took also care of the lighting design of this temporary installation.
